We aren't restaurant critics but we do like good food!

Here are a few places that we've enjoyed on our travels and we would definitely say were worth checking out if you are in the relevant area. Posticino - Sea Point, Cape Town They have three locations but we've only tried this one - each time we've been in Cape Town. It's super friendly proper Italian dining with a mixed menu consisting of various pastas, lots of pizzas and a range of mains. It's busy, well-priced and a real slice of Italy in Africa. We like it so much that once we have a trip planned we make a booking, often months before they can take one!
Chokka Block - St. Francis Bay
Located next to the harbour, in the superbly named Squid Square, off Triton Avenue, this is what seafood should be. Freshly landed, utterly varied and very local. I think there was more listed on the chalk boards than in the actual menu and it's clear that what they sell is linked to the daily catch. The only tough bit is getting a table. Superb seafood not really messed around with. Bello Cibo - Oudtshoorn
An easy walk from the centre of the town, this restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating area and a nicely varied menu. It's well inland so no surprise to find some excellent meat and game dishes. The three venison selection was superbly prepared as was everything else we had. Die Dorpshuis - Calitzdorp
Right in the middle of this small settlement on R62, die Dorpshuis has the sort of smaller menu you expect in such places but everything we had was pleasingly good. Most travellers to South Africa have ended up at places like this - in the heart of the town or village, tin roof, porch with seating, early to mid twentieth century vibe within - and die Dorpshuis takes all that tradition and then elevates its relatively straightforward menu. It's simple food done very well and a real gem for Calitzdorp.
We've eaten at lots of places and many of them were very good - the ones above managed to stand out from the rest.
